    Tax Accountant

    As a Tax Accountant, you will work in a team environment to help ensure that Lithia complies with sales and use tax and similar reporting obligations for its nationwide network of automotive dealerships. You will also work to support the company’s income tax and financial reporting functions.

     

    Operating as an integral part of the tax department requires constant communication with all tax team members, other departments at Lithia’s corporate headquarters and satellite offices, and with Lithia’s dealerships. Success ultimately includes knowledge of tax laws, company policies and procedures, corporate accounting, and store operations as they relate to sales and income taxes.

    Job Description

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES

    Sales and Use Tax

    • Prepare and process sales tax returns, balance and clear general ledgers to complete tax return entries, communicate with dealerships regarding exempt transactions, and facilitate the filing of returns and payments;
    • Assist the department’s data gathering and manipulation processes necessary for sales tax function;
    • Communicate internally to facilitate preparation of tax returns and special projects;
    • Research tax positions and assist in developing strategies and initiatives;
    • Other duties as assigned.

     

    Income Tax

    • Prepare various book/tax difference calculations and schedules for federal and multistate income tax returns;
    • Prepare schedules supporting the income tax provision eventually working towards proficiency in ASC 740 concepts and Longview tax provision software;
    • Other duties as assigned.

    • Thoroughness, accuracy, consistency, and timeliness in completing essential duties.

     

    ADDITIONAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

    The following knowledge, skills and abilities are needed to be successful in this position:

    • Strong attention to detail and sense of urgency;
    • Knowledge of and eventual proficiency in CDK, Hyperion, Excel, BNA and other systems as assigned;
    • Understanding of income tax and sales and use tax laws and rates and proficiency in research of such items;
    • Proficiency in processes and data manipulation used for income tax workpapers and sales and use tax returns;
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
    • Critical thinking requiring use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems;
    • Time management including the ability to prioritize workload and manage one’s own time.

     

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, or Economics
    • CPA or candidate eligible for the CPA exam desired
    • Prior work experience in tax or accounting desired

     

    Lithia Minimum Hiring Requirements

    • High school graduate or equivalent
    • 18 years or older
    • Possess a valid driver’s license in your state of residence
    • 24 months licensed driving experience
    • Pass a 7 year criminal background check
