Employee Development Specialist


Department:         Learning & Development / Human Development

Supervisor:            Leadership Development Manager



Position Overview:

The Employee Development Specialist is responsible for supporting a broad range of learning and development solutions. This role focuses on the strategic goal of Growing People across Lithia by supporting the initiatives related to leadership development, employee growth and engagement, and improved individual and team performance.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

This may include, but is not limited to the following:

  • Survey & Assessment Management
    • Facilitate the survey and assessment process, including administration and analysis, to summarize, track, and trend to:
      • Tell the story of employee engagement, performance, and developmental growth
      • Report on findings and work with various leaders on the employee experience from hire to retire (i.e. share best practices, trainings, communications, resources, etc.)


  • Grow People
    • Take a critical role in employee development and high-potential leadership programs focused on advancing employees and leaders and evolve our succession planning efforts
      • Organize and monitor the Accelerated Management Program (AMP), focused on career advancement and developing high-potential employees and leaders
      • Work collaboratively with leaders to plan and coordinate high impact learning programs and opportunities for the organization
        • Coordinate AMP by working on facilitating advancement plans, AMP assignments, and training activities
        • Plan, organize, and orchestrate in-person trainings, including development meetings and performance groups
        • Report on development efforts and assess performance progress made by AMP participants
      • Collaborates with staff-led leadership advancement groups to help facilitate effective, diverse, and meaningful programming


  • Learning Tools & Resources
    • Partner with the Learning Team to create and/or source trainings, tools, and resources that address needs
    • Provide support for other Learning and Development initiatives as needed


Performance Measurements/Expectations

  • Survey & Assessment Management
    • Influence improvement in the Employee Experience by creating awareness of areas of strength, opportunities, and best practices
    • Identifies key metrics and develops evaluation processes to ensure organizational development program effectiveness. Key indicators include:
      • Survey Results (New Employee Survey, Leadership Survey, Employee Satisfaction/Engagement Survey, Exit Survey, other as applicable)
      • Turnover Rate
      • Regrettable Attrition


  • Grow People
    • Successfully manage and track training and development activities to evaluate ROI
    • Ensure valuable learning programs are utilized and promoted
    • Demonstrates an interest and passion for diversity in leadership and employee advancement and exhibits an ability to influence change


  • Other
    • Meet and exceed individual objectives as defined by supervisor
    • Consistently produce high-quality deliverables


Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

The following knowledge, skills and abilities are needed to be successful in this position:

  • Excellent organization skills with the ability to effectively manage multiple priorities
  • Outstanding written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Highly skilled with MS Office products, particularly Word, PowerPoint and Excel
  • Self-starter, results-oriented, and able to work independently
  • Active listening - giving full attention to the words and body language of others, taking time to understand the points being made and asking questions as appropriate


Preferred Qualifications

  • BA or undergraduate degree in Business, Training, Human Resources, Communications, Psychology or related field preferred
  • Minimum of 1+ years job related experience
  • Experience in the following: training, employee development, performance management

  • Physical Demands: Standing, walking over 1/3 of the time, sitting to 2/3 of time, kneeling/crouching to 2/3 of time, reaching with hands and arms to 2/3 of time, talking or hearing over 2/3 of time; move, transport or place up to 1/3 of time up to 25 lbs
  • Working Conditions: Indoor office environment, considerable use of telephone, computer, and other office equipment


Lithia Hiring Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • 18 years or older
  • Possess an acceptable driving record and valid driver’s license in state of residence
  • A criminal history background check will be conducted prior to beginning employment
  • Clear pre-employment drug screen
