The Underwriter will be responsible for ensuring efficient and timely processing of customer loan applications submitted to Southern Cascades Finance Corporation. The Underwriter will be required to effectively communicate with Lithia Support Service Management and dealership personnel.

Job Description

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES

 

Area of Responsibility

  • Evaluate risk on loan applications within set parameters.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with dealer partners
  • Conduct store visits on a regular and ongoing basis
  • Ensure dealership applications are responded to in under 1 hour during regular business hours
  • Work collaboratively and assist collections team with requested information
  • Other duties as per Loan Origination Officer job description:
  • Process incoming vehicle loan applications in a timely manner
  • Research all variables of the loan application
  • Analyze information provided and evaluate strength of application
  • Conduct customer interviews to further evaluate customer’s ability to fulfill loan agreement
  • Offer alternatives (counter offer) when requested criteria fall outside of SCFC parameters
  • Assist funding staff in securing all necessary documents required for loan funding
  • Assist dealerships promptly, professionally, and consistently. All communications must be clear, concise and documented.
  • Ensure store requests are responded to in under 1 hour during regular business hours
  • Keep customer information confidential
  • Other duties as assigned or directed

ADDITIONAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

 

The following knowledge, skills and abilities are needed to be successful in this position:

  • Strong attention to detail and sense of urgency
  • Basic knowledge of installment loans and various customer protection laws
  • Basic understanding of loan origination documentation preferred
  • PC skills including knowledge and use of MS Office (Excel, Word, Windows, etc.)
  • Excellent communication skills both written and oral
  • Active Listening – give full attention to the words and body language of others, take time to understand the points being made and ask questions as appropriate
  • Critical Thinking – using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Time Management – ability to prioritize workload and manage one’s own time

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Banking and/or loan originations experience
  • Prior finance training or certification is valuable

  • Working Conditions: Indoor office environment, considerable use of telephone, computer and other office equipment

Lithia Hiring Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • 18 years or older
  • Possess an acceptable driving record and valid driver’s license in state of residence
  • A criminal history background check will be conducted prior to beginning employment
  • Clear pre-employment drug screen
