The Tax Accountant ensures the company is complying with income tax, financial reporting for taxes, and sales/use tax obligations and other similar reporting and remittance obligations. Operates as an integral part of the tax department; requires constant communication within department, with other departments, and with stores. Requires knowledge of income and sales tax laws, company policies and procedures, corporate accounting, and store operations as they relate to income and sales tax.


Job Description





Income Tax & Sales and Use Tax

  • Preparation of various book/tax difference calculations, schedules, and workbooks supporting the income tax return
  • Process sales tax returns, balance and clear general ledgers to complete tax return entries, communicate with stores regarding exempt transactions, and facilitate the filing of returns and payments
  • Prepare schedules supporting the income tax provision; working towards proficiency in ASC 740 concepts and Longview software
  • Research tax positions and assist in developing strategies, as assigned, communicate internally to facilitate preparation of income tax returns and special projects
  • Assist the department’s data gathering and manipulation processes necessary for income and sales tax functions
  • Other duties, as assigned

The following knowledge, skills and abilities are needed to be successful in this position:

  • Strong attention to detail and sense of urgency.
  • Knowledge of and eventual proficiency in ADP, Hyperion, Excel, Great Plains and other systems as assigned
  • Understanding of income tax and sales and use tax laws and rates and proficiency in research of such items
  • Proficiency in processes and data manipulation used for income tax workbook and sales and use tax preparation
  • Excellent communication skills both written and oral
  • Active Listening – give full attention to the words and body language of others, take time to understand the points being made and ask questions as appropriate
  • Critical Thinking – using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Time Management – ability to prioritize workload and manage one’s own time


  • BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, or Economics
  • CPA or candidate eligible for the CPA exam desired
  • Prior work experience in tax or accounting desired

Lithia Minimum Hiring Requirements


  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • 18 years or older
  • Possess an acceptable driving record and valid driver’s license in state of residence
  • A criminal history background check will be conducted prior to beginning employment
  • Clear pre-employment drug screen
